Unit 12: The Crusades Part 1

[dropcap type=”box”]D[/dropcap]uring the Middle Ages the Christians of Europe would go to Jerusalem for pilgrimages. Just when these pilgrimages were reaching their height, the Turkish conquests in Syria erected new parries to the pilgrims. Western Christendom was soon filled with tales of outrageous acts committed upon the Christians and their shrines. When news of these acts reached the west, there was outrage expressed that the holy lands should be in possession of people who did not follow the Christian religion, and men, and sometimes children, became enamored with the idea of expelling the Mahammedans.
