Unit Description

World War II was a complicated war with American involvement in both Europe and the Pacific. Hitler, a powerful and charismatic leader, led many in his country to believe in his cause. However, there were others who secretly worked to remove Hitler from power by planning several unsuccessful assassination attempts. The “Big Three” Allied powers – America, Britain, and the Soviet Union – believed that the best way to defeat Germany was to invade Europe from the east. This led to the Allied victory on D-Day, June 6, 1944 and ultimately led to the defeat of the Axis powers. Once the war ended, America offered financial assistance to the Allies through the Marshall Plan. All nations, except the Soviet Union, gratefully accepted the help in rebuilding the devastated European countries.
