Unit Description
The Civil War had been a long struggle but the end was near. After Sherman’s March to the Sea, the South was all but beaten. General Lee surrendered to General Grant at Appomattox Court House. Both parties acted with grace and humility. Joy spread throughout the nation but it was short lived as an assassin’s hand shot President Lincoln and joy was replaced with great national sorrow.
