A Map of the Louisiana PurchaseUnit Description

“As with reverent thought we turn from the closing days of George Washington’s life, our interest is drawn to the career of another national hero, with whom we associate the most remarkable expansion in the area of our country, Thomas Jefferson…” – Wilbur Fisk Gordy

Leading Ideas and Biblical Principles

[list type=”arrow”]

  • History is HIS Story – God’s story of love, mercy, and redemption through Christ.
    • He made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, to be put into effect when the times reach their fulfillment—to bring unity to all things in heaven and on earth under Christ. — Ephesians 1‍:‍9-10
  • God’s providential hand governs and times all events and provides for His Creation according to His plan and purposes.
    • The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by human hands. And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything. Rather, he himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else. From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands. God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us.- Acts 17: 24 – 27
  • Godly leadership and servanthood are necessary for one to be a true reforming influence.
    • Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave—just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many..- Matthew 20:26 – 28
  • God raises up and removes leaders.
    • He changes times and seasons; he deposes kings and raises up others. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning..- Daniel 2:21

Literature and Composition

    • Read the Author’s Note and Resources at the back of the book.

Now that you have a journal full of the events of our book and the thoughts and emotions they have provoked, you’re going to refer to all of those as you write a book review. Amazon.com allows its customers to write reviews of the books that they have read, and to assign that book a ranking from 1-5 stars.

  • In your first paragraph, briefly introduce the main characters in the book. Try to think carefully, and describe their personality and character, not just what they do.
  • In your second paragraph, give an overview of the major events in the book. Look back through your tweets, status updates, and images and pick the events that you feel are the most significant and briefly describe them. You might think about covering events that occur near the beginning, middle, and end of Seaman’s story.
  • In your last paragraph, give your final recommendation of Seaman, either positive or negative. You need to back up your recommendation with your thoughts and feelings about the events and characters in the book. This is another great place for you to look back through your journal to recall what you were thinking and feeling as you were reading.
  • Lastly, draw 5 stars, and color in as many as you would choose to indicate your personal ranking of the book.
  • After you have written your review, edit it with the help of a parent or teacher, and copy it into your Social Media Journal. You might desire to add your review to the Seaman page on Amazon.com.
